Forest Essentials Facial Scrub Hand Pounded Organic Fruit Review

Today I will be reviewing the Forest Essentials Facial Scrub Hand Pounded Organic Fruit, which I received as a part of my February Envy Box. I received a decent sample size, and used it a couple of times already. I thought of sharing my views on the products I received this time as all sample are decent sized to use and find out whether I liked it or not.

Price: INR 1675 for 50 gm

Product Details (As per website):

This nourishing face scrub, hand-pounded to the right consistency, blends fresh organically grown Dates, Peaches and Almond seeds with rich Apricot Kernel oil, pure Honey and finely milled Almonds to gently exfoliate dull cells, revealing a beautifully polished and glowing complexion.

Product Benefits:

Derived from the unique Fal Yukth Gharshan Lep, this facial scrub uses a variety of fruit with exfoliating properties along with other natural plant extracts. These ingredients are fermented by placing them in terracotta jars buried under the ground for many months, and then blended with herb, root and flower infusions to create a highly nourishing and deep cleansing scrub.

How to use:

Use a small amount on damp skin and rub gently to cleanse. Rinse well.

Since I have a sample of this product, I don’t know actually about the packaging apart from that it comes in a tub form, like many other products of Forest Essentials. The scrub is a thick sticky paste, and is dark brown in color. It looks like some sort of chutney or thick jam. There are some coarse granules visible in the paste itself.

Forest Essentials Facial Scrub Hand Pounded Organic Fruit

I find the scrub too thick in consistency. It applies well only on moist face, after the scrub has been diluted a little as well. The scrub is mainly smooth, but it has some coarse granules which are a bit too harsh on sensitive skin. Since I have a sensitive skin, I find it difficult to prevent them from irritating my skin a little.

The good thing is that it leaves the skin smooth and polished after use. It is a good scrub to use at nose and chin area, which normally have more black heads than rest of the face. But still one has to be careful about the pressure. It also imparts a slight glow to the skin, and it looks a little more hydrated.

There is another issue that I faced with this scrub. I normally use my scrub after washing my face with a face wash, and I rinse my face just with plain water after using a scrub. With this scrub, there was a layer of residue left on my face which comes out only when I clean it with face wash or toner. That is not something that I have faced with any of my scrubs before, and I don’t like it.

Also, the smell of this scrub is not very pleasant. Although it has hints of rose to it, but the dries fruits overcome it and the smell of the fermented fruits is bothersome to me. Unfortunately, the smell lingers on the skin for a long time as well.

So in my opinion this Forest Essential Facial scrub is a bit harsh for sensitive skin on a regular basis. I scrub my face 2-3 times a week, and I can think of using it once a week max. This scrub will be better for people with normal non-sensitive skin, if they can go past the smell. For me, it is a very average product, not worth the money that you have to spend on it.

Forest Essentials Panchpushp Facial Tonic Mist Review

I picked up Forest Essentials Panchpushp Facial Tonic Mist as one of the few products that I picked up to give this brand another chance. I had tried a few of Forest Essentials products which unfortunately did not work for me as expected, so I was keeping my distance from this brand. But after giving it a break for sometime, I thought of giving it another chance and so far the products that I have reviewed have been pretty decent. Let’s talk about Forest Essentials Panchpushp facial tonic mist in this post.

Price: INR 650 for 100 ml, INR 1125 for 200 ml

Product Description (As per website):

This hydrosol or floral water comes from the condensation collected during the steam distillation of flowers when extracting essential oils. This contains five flowers of which the Rose is naturally hydrating, Bela helps in retaining moisture, Marigold is toning, Kewda is softening and Saffron gives a glow to the skin.

Product Benefits:

The skin requires a gentle boost after cleansing to rehydrate and tone and prepare it for a nourishing routine. The freshest flowers of Rose, Marigold, Bela, Kewda and Saffron are steam distilled for their pure essential oils and the hydrating floral water residue is used for this intensely hydrating Facial Toner.”

Directions for use:

Spray onto the face and neck after cleansing to hydrate and freshen the skin. Can be used as often as required during the day.

The panchpushp tonic mist comes in a transparent plastic spray bottle with a cap. I believe it was earlier named as a toner and used to come without a spray pump. The mist is yellow in color. It is a formulation of 5 flowers- rose, bela, marigold, kewda and saffron. The facial mist smells wonderful like all the products from Forest Essentials.

I have been using it after cleansing and using my Clinique clarifying lotion, which is itself a mild exfoliator and a toner. The mist feels nice on the skin, and does not irritate in any way. But it is way too runny, and it runs down the face and neck. It does not get absorbed immediately in the skin Clinique Moisture Surge Spray which is a little disappointing for me. It does hydrate the skin, but again hydration level is not like it is being raved about. I follow it with rest of the products from my skincare regimen.

The product in itself is good, it hydrates to some extent. Though I have not seen any difference in few open pores that I have on my cheeks. I think it will make an excellent facial spray for summers, for it cools down the face and smells amazing. It is going to be an instant pick me up for those hot summer days.

Overall, I like this product though I am not in love with it. I am not sure of using it over the makeup as well, because of its runny nature. For me, it is not going to replace my toner in any way, though I will use it as a facial mist. I am sure I am going to love using it in the coming season.

Rating: 3.5/5

Will I repurchase and recommend Forest Essentials Panchpushp Facial Tonic Mist to others???

I will repurchase it, but purely to use it as a facial mist in summer time. And I will recommend this only if you are looking for a facial mist for a skin with no open pore or other issues.

Have any one of used Forest Essentials Panchpushp Facial Tonic Mist??? What are your thoughts on the same???

Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray Review

I am using a lot of Clinique skincare products from the last 3 years or so. I like to try out skincare from other brands every now and then, but I tend to go back to Clinique time and again. I religiously follow their 3-step regimen (though I am planning to skip their face wash for a while now) and I have couple of other products from them as well. Today I am going to review the Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray.

I got this bottle somewhere in summer of 2014, and have been using it every now and then. The bottle is almost finished and I was not actually planning to review it until one incident happened that made me change my mind. I was not even sure if I wanted to share this small incident with you all, but I now think I do. A little story time…..

I guess all of you might remember how excited I was to get samples from Kiehl’s??? Some time back I decided to give them a try. I decided to use their face wash, toner and much raved about Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I washed my face and toned with the sample provided. So far, so good. And then I applied the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate on my face. First thing I noticed was that the oil smelled rancid. I checked the expiration date and it was good to go. So I applied it without thinking much. Within 4-5 minutes of applying it, I started to have a burning sensation on my face. I checked in mirror and to my horror, my face was red and small bumps were all over my face!!! I immediately washed my face and popped in an anti-allergic. But there was still a burning sensation on my face, so I went through my stash, picked up this face spray and sprayed it all over my face. With in seconds, my face calmed down, and in a minute or two redness went way down. My skin remained in a pretty bad shape for days, but this facial spray really helped to calm my skin whenever needed. So this is the story…..

Price: INR 2000 for 125 ml (the prices may have changed now)

Clinique Moisture Surge Spray comes in a pale pink plastic bottle with a spray pump. It is a sturdy packaging, and I always like the quality of their pump sprays, which is way better than the Forest Essentials one.

I bought this product in the summers, for that quick hydration that the dry skin needs at times even in the summer season. Although it was effective in calming my skin, I did not end up using much in summer. This could be probably because at home I preferred applying moisturizer whenever I can, and I found it bulky to travel with in my handbag. But it is a great spray to hydrate dry or itchy skin, especially in summer, as it provides a cooling effect as well.

I have used it over my makeup as setting spray as well, and believe me, it works very well in that area as well. It sets my makeup as well as hydrates at the same time. It is also a great product to apply whenever you feel that your makeup is a drying up your skin after a long wear.

I have used it extensively this winter, because sometimes my skin felt dehydrated even after couple of hours of moisturization. But the best use of this spray has been to calm down itchy and irritated skin. I have used it on my face after sun exposure as well, and it immediately calms down the skin.

The best thing about this face spray is its consistency. Although it is watery in texture, it sticks to your face when sprayed and does not run down the face. I have faced this problem with Forest Essentials toner, which when sprayed, runs all over your face. This in turn sticks to your skin and gets absorbed quickly.

The only con for me is that if sprayed a little too much especially in summer, it may feel sticky. Other than that, it is a perfect facial spray and the latest incident has restored my faith in this wonderful product all over again.

Flawed or Fab?

NUXE Serum Merveillance Visible Expression Lines Review

On my last visit to Sephora, I picked up a serum from a french brand called NUXE. I have been on hunt for a good serum, though I had recently picked up Clinique  Sculptwear Lift and Contour serum and was already using it, which I have already reviewed here. But this one from Nuxe seemed to be so reasonably priced as compared to Clinique one that I thought of giving it a try. I have been using it for more 15 days now, and thought of reviewing this was a right time to review it.

Price: INR 3400 for 30 ml

IMG_0867Product Description:

This concentrated serum instantly smoothes and detenses skin. It fills in the appearance of visible expression lines. Immediately facial features appear more relaxed, visible signs of fatigue look diminished;skin seems to glow. Face and eye contour.”

Shelf Life: 3 years from date of manufacturing

The NUXE Visible Expression Lines Serum comes in a heavy glass bottle with a pump. The serum is of thicker consistency than most of the serums, and is light yellow in color. The serum smells strongly citrus. It might be a problem for sensitive nose, though the smell does not linger on for a long time.

I usually need two pumps for whole of my face and neck. It is creamy in texture, and hydrates a little as well. The skin immediately feels smooth after applying this serum. Since I have dry skin, I follow it up with my regular moisturizer.

After using for some time, I have not seen any visible difference in the fine lines, though my lines are not that visible to start with. But this serum has definitely made my skin more plump and softer. This has helped with my pigmentation as well. When I had started using Clinique Sculptwear, I had started noticing my pigmentation decreasing, though that serum was not actually meant for that. This serum has further helped to lighten pigmentation, especially I dark patch that I had on my cheek. It has started lightening with Clinique and has further improved while using this serum. It did not cause any irritation or break outs as well.

That said, I am not a fan of the smell. Also i have used it only for 15 days, once per day, and I am already half through the bottle. That way, it will last me hardly a month, and that too if I use it once a day. So I am not sure if that will turn out to be more economical than Clinique or Estee Lauder serum, since less cost was one of the reason I bought it. But is is still a decent serum, and I think it will be great for people who are just starting out with serums or ones who have serious visible lines can definitely try it out.

Rating: 3/5

Will I repurchase and recommend the NUXE Visible Expression Lines Serum to others???

I will probably not repurchase this serum, as I feel I am not the right target for this product. I will recommend this serum only to those who have serious fine lines and want to try something out.

Clinique Sculptwear Lift and Contour Serum Review

I have a good relationship with Clinique when it comes to skincare products. I have experienced good results with most of them, except a couple of products which turned out to be disaster. As I had mentioned earlier in one of my posts, I was on hunt on a good face serum , since I was disappointed with my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, a detailed review of which is linked here.

On my last visit to Clinique, I ended up buying this Clinique Sculptwear Lift and Contour Serum for face and neck. Now let me be honest with you, I was there to buy their Custom repair serum, because I have uneven skin tone and pigmentation issues that I wanted to take care of. But the SA somehow managed to sell me this one instead, all though I knew very well that this is not particularly aimed at my problem area!!! I felt like a fool after I brought this one home. Anyways I have been using it for 3 weeks now and I have already formed an opinion about it.

IMG_0323Price: INR 5150 for 30 ml

The serum comes in an elegant silver pump bottle encased in a see through rectangular cover. So Chic!!! The pump works extremely well, as is the case with most of the Clinique products. The only tiny problem with the packaging is that it is an opaque bottle, so it will be difficult to see how much of product has been used.

The serum is milky white in color, with no fragrance at all. It is supposed to be used twice daily, but I am using it only once currently. I just take 2-3 drops of the serum, apply it all over my face, and then take an extra drop and use it exclusively around my jawline. It is not a very hydrating serum, so people with dry skin will definitely need a moisturizer after this.

Now let’s talk about the results. I don’t have any contouring and lifting issues right now as such (Stupid Me for buying it!!!!). But this serum has worked wonderfully well for my uneven skin tone!!! Although no where it mentions that it works for it, but my face has a more even skin tone now. It appears much brighter, and the dullness has gone to a great extent! And that also when I am using it only once even though it is expected to be used twice. My skin feels very soft and well rested lately. I have also seen a considerable amount of reduction in pigmentation around my mouth and forehead.

All in all, though I can not verify about it’s claims of lifting and contouring, I find it a very nice everyday serum for general skin issues like pigmentation. Although a bit expensive, but I am glad that I invested in this one and got better results in 3 weeks than I did with Estee Lauder Advanced Repair in 8 months!!!

Flawed or Fab???

Will I repurchase and recommend Clinique Sculptwear Lift and Contour Serum to others???

Yes, if price is not an issue, I will suggest anyone with pigmentation issues to give it a try.

Have any one of you used this Sculptwear Lift and Contour Serum???

Beauty and Skincare products patiently waiting to be used in my stash…..

May be this will sound a bit odd to all you lovely girls…

I buy things…

I get too excited whenever I receive gifts…

Like a little girl, I drool over them…

And then I wait and wait and wait to use them….

I have some beauty and skincare products which either I received as gifts or bought myself which are yet to be used. So I thought of making a list of these products and plan when would be an appropriate time to use them. I would love you all to go through this list along with me:

DSC_0652(Sorry for poor pics on my blog till now, I m new to it and trying to learn)

1.Victoria’s Secret Sheer Love Body Butter: Now this one is a recent gift that I received from my brother and sis-in-law when they recently visited from Australia. The one that I have is White Cotton & Pink Lily deep softening body butter. It is packed in a pink plastic tub container with a golden plastic lid.The body butter is a thick jelly like pink stuff. If I gently touch the top of the body butter, it actually feels like jelly; it is very thick. I tested a small patch on my hand, it glided on easily and leaves a little shine on the surface. The smell reminds me of Vaseline body lotion . I am currently very happy with my Jergens Ultra healing Moisturizer, so I will continue using it for a while so that it can heal my skin further. I am planning to start using in the latter half of December and see how it fares.

2.Victoria’s Secret Mini Perfume Set: This is the one I can’t wait to try, but I am holding myself back because I already have so many perfumes lined up that I am planning to finish. Again this is a gift by relatives from USA, I don’t know what it is called exactly( there is nothing written on it), so I am calling it Mini Perfume Set. It contains 10 mini bottles of VS perfumes beautifully packed in a pink sparkly cardboard box, each measuring 2.66ml.The ten fragrances are: Heavenly,Angels Only,Body By Victoria,Victoria’s Secret Bombshell, Noir Tease,Very Sexy,Victoria ,EAU so Sexy,Victoria’s Secret Night and Victoria’s Secret Fearless.

I am not sure of the price, but if I can read it write, it retails for US $25.00

I am planning to use it from next year while travelling, this way I will not have to carry full size bottle as well I get to use it!

3.Wella Professionals Smoothen Mask: This was an impulse purchase when I was visiting my parents last week. I was almost out of my L’oreal hair Mask, and wanted to buy a new one. I was at a local retail shop where the owner suggested this mask. I have never used any products from this brand, so I bought this one. I was in a hurry and on coming home noticed that the cap was broken 😦

Anyways I hope the packing lasts or I will have t o transfer it to another container.  It is way too expensive than the L’oreal one, so I hope it performs well. I guess I will be using it from next week itself as my current one is about to finish.

Price: INR995 for 200 ml

4.Faces Ultime Pro Velvet Matte Lipstick- Pinked Out: Again bought this lipstick about month and a half ago, and haven’t yet tried. In reality I wanted to buy shade Proof  in the same range but somehow the SA managed to sell me this one instead. It is a bright fuchsia color, apt for party makeup. I am planning to pair it up with a Black outfit at some point. Lets see when that happens!

BTW I ruined the lipstick a little bit while taking a pic!!!

Price: INR 649 for 4.5 gm

5.Wet n Wild Nail Colors: Again this one is a gift from USA. It has 9 nail colors- 3 in mini wild shine,3 in mini fast dry and 3 in mini megalast. Each one is 5 ml in volume. I do’t know the price of this one. I am not very much into nail colors, so I doubt if I will be using it.

Hopefully I can stay on schedule for the products that I plan to use so that I can review them in time.

I would love to listen to your views on any of the products above mentioned, so please leave a comment in case you would like to share your experience.

ESTEE LAUDER Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II Review

Such a long name for a serum…. uffff! No wonder they charge such big bucks for this product…..Naam hi kaafi hai!!!For review purpose, I think I will end up calling it ANR Recovery Complex II (yes, I know I am lazy!).

According to the information available on the official website of Estee Lauder, the product claims to:

Reveal a smoother, more radiant, younger look. Wake up to more beautiful skin every day.

Tested and proven: Advanced Night Repair dramatically reduces the look of all key signs of aging.

It maximizes the power of skin’s natural nighttime renewal with our exclusive ChronoluxCB™ Technology.

Lines and wrinkles look significantly reduced. More than 75% of women felt their skin looked more youthful in just 4 weeks. Skin feels smoother, hydrated, stronger. 82% felt their skin was immediately hydrated. Skin looks younger, radiant, more even toned. 83% felt their skin looked healthier, fresher, more rested in just 4 weeks.

DSC_0650Price: INR 7500 for 50 ml (Or was it INR 7000??? Ooops)

Also available in 30 ml and 75 ml sizes.

I have been using this serum now for around 7-8 months now (I am on my third bottle). And here I am telling you with a heavy heart that I find it to be a over hyped product. As much as I wanted to see extraordinary results, it failed on the promises that it made.

I have pigmentation on my face ( thanks to neglected skincare throughout my life) and my skin is dry and gets dull. Occasionally it starts to feel rough to touch as well. All this ANR did was hydrate my skin to some extent, made my skin a bit soft on application, but I see no change in the pigmentation on my face. And there is no major change in the health of the skin as well. In case I happen to skip it for even 2 days, my skin starts looking like it used to couple of months back.

From the very beginning, I could see that it was not doing anything for my skin. But I had heard so many good things about it, that I continued using it in the hope of miracle. And the miracle didn’t happen! I do not think I will give any more  time to this serum and switch to some other serum. I still have some serum left and I am planning to go for Clinique or try Clarins after this one. This one really broke my heart!!!

Finally, if you are looking just for some hydration and don’t have any major issues like pigmentation and dullness, you can give it a try ( but for the price tag that it comes with, I will firmly suggest against it). I think some other brands have products that can be tried instead.

Rating: 2.5/5

Will I repurchase it again???

I don’t think so!

November Empties/Discards and The Verdict…

Chill in the air!

Early morning fog!

Late evening fog!

Winter is here!

Ok… lets talk about the topic now. There are couple of items I managed to finish up in the last month (Yayyy… ). This post is all about those products that I used up (or almost used up) and my take on them.

DSC_06521.Vaseline Total Moisture: First of all, I don’t remember when I bought it and WHY I bought it! I guess I bought it somewhere in the beginning of the year after hearing some good stuff about it. But how disappointed I was! It does not hydrate my skin even a little, just leaves a greasy layer. And I hate the smell. I finished it up over the year by using it on and off. And I am glad that it is finished.

Verdict: Will not buy again!

2.Clinique Clarifying Lotion Type 2: I don’t have to write much about it as I have a full post on this amazing product. I have used up a 200 ml bottle this month, which I normally reserve for my travelling. And I already am on my new 400 ml bottle. I just love this stuff!

Verdict:Will Definitely buy again!

3.Oriflame Happy Skin Hydrating Hand Cream: Again one of the products that I bought long time back. I didn’t find it hydrating enough and to me it smells weird. I like my hand creams to be very hydrating and smell amazing, so somehow I didn’t like using it on both the aspects. I have been using it occasionally and there is still some left in the tube. But I am going to throw it away anyways.

Verdict: Will not buy again!

4.Fabindia Vitamin-E De-pigmentation cream: This cream was bought around 2 years back.I don’t like the texture nor do I like the smell of this cream. It is very heavy in its appearance in the tub, although not so heavy on the skin. Although I have heard many good things about it, still I can’t bring myself around using it. Tried using it on my legs and arms to finish it up but ….. More than a year left for the expiration and hardly any used, it  is definitely going in the trash!

Verdict: Will not buy again!

5.Olay Total Effects 7 in one day cream with SPF 15: I had some good experience with Olay moisturizer that used to come without SPF.So I wanted to try this variant as well. Although it moisturized my skin well in summers and made my skin softer, somehow it caused me to breakouts. I discontinued using it for couple of days and again tried after my skin cleared up. Again the breakouts! I guess the SPF part has to do something with it. It’s a shame that I can’t use it because otherwise it is a decent everyday moisturizer.

Verdict: May buy again!

6.Victoria’s Secret Heavenly perfume: This perfume was a gift from one of my relatives from U.S. And I fell in love with the fragrance from the first sniff! I was using this perfume throughout the summer and finished it up last month. It is a big accomplishment for me because I keep on collecting perfumes and never manage to finish any. But this was my go to perfume last summer. Very pleasant and mild fragrance.

Verdict:Will Definitely buy again!
